Veteran journalist Abdul Kuddus no more

Veteran journalist Abdul Kuddus (82), former convener of Sirajganj Press Club and district news distributor of the daily Sangbad, has passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun). He died at his home on Mujib Road in Sirajganj town in the early hours of Friday, September 25.

He had been bedridden for more than a month due to various old-age complications. His niece and head of the Bengali Department at Rabindra University, Laila Ferdous Himel, confirmed the information.

According to family sources, Abdul Kuddus was admitted to Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital in Enayetpur after suffering a heart attack on August 17. He was under the close observation of doctors there for quite some time.

He was taken home after he recovered somewhat. He died this morning after remaining bedridden for one month and eight days.

Abdul Kuddus began his journalism career as a news distributor for the daily Sangbad. He was working at the same institution until his death.

He is survived by a daughter, grandson, brother, nephews and nieces, and numerous well-wishers.

A shadow of mourning has descended on the journalist community in Sirajganj over the death of the veteran journalist. His funeral will be held after Jumma prayers on Friday at the Malshapara graveyard ground in Sirajganj municipality area, and he will be buried there.
