Veteran journalist and columnist Bibhuranjan Sarkar has been missing since Thursday morning, his family confirmed. Sarkar, who held prominent roles in several national dailies and weekly publications over a long career, was last seen leaving home for work around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

“My brother left for the office at 10 a.m., but inquiries at his workplace and among acquaintances revealed that he never arrived. No one has seen him, and he left his mobile phone at home,” his brother Chirranjan Sarkar posted on Facebook on Friday.

Family members have filed a general diary (GD) at Ramna Police Station. “Bibhuranjan Sarkar was a punctual man who followed a strict daily routine. His sudden disappearance has left the family deeply worried,” they said.

News of his disappearance has drawn concern on social media from fellow journalists, writers, and former student leaders.

Born in 1954, Sarkar began his journalism career in the late 1960s while still a school student, working as a provincial correspondent for the Dainik Azad. He later earned a postgraduate degree from the Department of Bangla at Dhaka University.

During his career, he held key positions at the daily Matribhumi, the weekly Choltipatra, and the weekly Mridubhashon. In the 1980s, during the anti-autocracy movement, his politically analytical writings under the pseudonym “Tarikh Ibrahim” in the weekly Jaijaidin earned widespread recognition among readers.
