Victory Day to see release of five prisoners

The prison authorities have issued an order to release five inmates convicted of minor offences by pardoning their remaining sentences ahead of Victory Day.

The information was disclosed in a press statement signed by Assistant Inspector General of Prisons, media and development, Md Jannat Ul Forhad, on Wednesday. The notice stated that the remaining sentences of five convicted prisoners have been remitted, allowing their release.

Md Jannat Ul Forhad said that the inmates will be released once the respective prisons receive the release order.

He further said that the inmates receiving clemency are currently being held at Dhaka Central Jail, Narayanganj Central Jail and Chattogram Central Jail. They had been convicted in cases involving assault and fraud.
