A union land sub-assistant officer in Faridpur's Boalmari upazila has been temporarily suspended after a video of him counting bribe money went viral on social media. The decision, effective from Sunday, was confirmed in an office order signed by Deputy Commissioner Mazharul Islam.

The order stated that action was taken against him under the misconduct and corruption provisions of the Government Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. He was working at the Satair-Kh Union Land Office in Boalmari.

A video circulating on social media on Sunday showed Imran Sheikh counting ten 500-taka notes received from a service seeker. The district administration took immediate action after the video sparked widespread discussion.

However, Imran Sheikh denied the allegations, claiming the money seen in the video was not a bribe but repayment of a loan given to a relative. He also claimed the video was several months old.

Boalmari Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) S M Rakibul Hasan said the district administration decided to suspend him immediately after the video surfaced. If the allegations are proven in the investigation, further departmental and legal action will be taken according to the rules.
