Video of schoolgirl being kicked goes viral, victim allegedly issued TC
A video of a schoolgirl being kicked in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion. Allegations have emerged that the victim herself was issued a Transfer Certificate (TC) and expelled from the school on grounds of being outside during school hours.
The victim is a fourth-grade student of Omar Ali High School in Kanchpur, Sonargaon upazila. About a month ago, while she was walking on the walkway along the Shitalakshya river, a teenager kicked her twice from behind. The incident was captured on a mobile phone. The video later went viral on Facebook and TikTok on Thursday.
The footage shows two schoolgirls in uniform walking on the walkway when a boy kicks one of them from behind. When the girl protests, she is kicked again.
Following the incident, another video surfaced on social media showing the accused teenager being made to sit down and hold his ears during a local arbitration, where he was heard apologising for the incident and promising not to repeat it.
The victim's father said the school authorities had issued a TC to his daughter for being outside the school premises during school hours.
He said their financial situation is not good, and he is now worried about admitting his daughter to another school.
The school's head teacher said the two students were issued TCs as per the school committee's decision. He claimed the incident took place outside the school and had already been settled locally.
Sonargaon Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Anwar Hossain said the video has come to the attention of police. However, no complaint has been filed by the family so far. He said the matter will be investigated and necessary legal action taken.
