A video showing a senior physician at Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital verbally abusing the family of a minor rape victim has gone viral on social media, prompting widespread outrage and calls for disciplinary action.

The video, which began circulating on Facebook earlier this week, shows Dr. Abul Kashem, the hospital’s Residential Medical Officer (RMO), using offensive, threatening, and degrading language while addressing the victim’s father and relatives at the hospital.

In the footage, the doctor is heard making alarming statements, including threats of physical violence and derogatory remarks. He accuses patients of treating the hospital like a “zoo” and declares, “You have no dignity. I’ll smash your nose. I can kill you.” The video appears to have been recorded during a heated exchange.

The footage quickly drew condemnation from netizens, with hundreds of people sharing the video and demanding immediate action against the doctor. Many expressed shock at the unprofessional behavior and called for a full investigation.

Shahjahan Sohel, a Facebook user, wrote, “We demand swift legal action. This type of behavior from a doctor is unacceptable.”

Others came forward to share their own experiences with Dr. Kashem. Rafiqul Islam alleged that the same doctor mistreated his mother during a hospital stay.
“My mother was admitted overnight, but in the morning, he refused to treat her. When I questioned him, he became aggressive and accused her of fleeing the hospital. He then used foul language and behaved like a thug,” Islam said.

Several professionals within the medical field also expressed concern.

Dr. Mozammel Haque Nahid, a fellow physician, wrote on Facebook, “One of the most critical aspects of medical care is counseling. A good attitude can help manage 70–75% of cases. For a senior BCS doctor to speak in this manner is deeply inappropriate. Such behavior tarnishes the reputation of the entire medical community.”

Rajabul Islam Raja, a government agriculture officer, also criticized the doctor's conduct, claiming he was mistreated even after disclosing his official identity.

Attempts to contact Dr. Abul Kashem for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone remained switched off.

When reached, Panchagarh Civil Surgeon Dr. Mizanur Rahman confirmed that Dr. Kashem had been served a show-cause notice immediately after the video surfaced.

“We have asked him to explain his conduct. Once we receive his response, appropriate action will be taken,” he said.
