Villagers engage in clash again in Sylhet's Companiganj

After the Saturday night clash between villagers of two villages at Companiganj upazila in Sylhet, the situation once again heated up on Sunday (December 15) morning.

Since morning, people from two villages armed with indigenous weapons have been engaged in a clash at Bazar Point in the upazila.

After the police failed to prevent the clash that took place in phases, the army and RAB finally brought the situation under control around 1:30pm. At least 70 people were injured in the clash.

Companiganj Police Station OC Uzayer Al Mahmud Adnan said, “On Saturday night, two people had an argument over charging mobile phone at a shop. Later, it turned into a clash. The clash lasted until 9pm. During this time, several shops were vandalised and cars were set on fire. At least 50 people were injured during the night. Later, villagers got involved in clash again in the morning. At least 20 people were injured then. Law enforcement agencies including the army are working to control the situation.”

“The injured in the clash are being treated at a local hospital. Two people have been sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital in serious condition,” said Upazila Health Complex Officer Dr Kamruzzaman Russell.
