Viral Beauty Rani named best teacher in Sylhet

Beauty Rani Paul, head teacher of Pithaitikor Government Primary School in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet, who faced criticism on social media after posting a walking video set to the song Shraboner Meghgulo, has now been selected as one of the district’s best teachers.

Four teachers were selected as the best at the district level through a selection process conducted by the Sylhet District Primary Education Office. A memorandum signed by District Primary Education Officer Sakhawat Ershad on Monday was sent to the divisional primary education office with the names of the selected teachers.

The other three teachers selected at the district level are Md. Jamal Uddin Laskar, head teacher of Jahiria Government Primary School in Sylhet Sadar upazila; Nurjahan Begum, head teacher of Adampur Government Primary School in Osmaninagar upazila; and Adori Rani Das, assistant teacher at No. 1 Chowdhury Bazar Government Primary School in Golapganj upazila.

On July 23, Beauty Rani Pal posted a video lasting a few seconds on her Facebook account. Wearing a blue sari with her sari’s end flowing in the breeze, she was seen walking in the video, which featured the song Shraboner Meghgulo. After the video spread online, she faced various comments and trolling on social media.

In response, teachers from different parts of the country later launched a symbolic protest. They posted videos on social media using the same song, drawing renewed attention to the issue.

At the time, Beauty Rani had expressed gratitude to people across the country, her family and journalists for standing by her amid the criticism.

Amid the continuing discussion and debate on social media, news of her selection as one of the best teachers at the district level has now emerged.

Earlier, Beauty Rani Paul was also selected as the best head teacher in Sylhet district under the National Primary Education Award 2023. She is a former student of the Department of English at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
