'Viral photo of ex-minister Nurul Majid in handcuffs is fake'
Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani has confirmed that a viral photo showing former Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun in handcuffs is fabricated. He stated that following the minister’s death, misinformation is circulating on social media. “The handcuff photo is false. During his hospital treatment, the former minister’s family and doctors were present. Any complaint can be investigated to reveal the truth,” he said.
Ghani made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon while responding to reporters after visiting the Keshabpur Tripalli Sarbojanin Durga Mandap.
On the recent unrest in Guimara, Khagrachhari, following allegations of the rape of an indigenous girl, the Home Secretary said doctors found no evidence of sexual assault. He added that the incident may have been premeditated, and an investigation is ongoing to uncover the facts.
Commenting on Durga Puja celebrations, Nasimul Ghani said, “The Hindu community is celebrating the festival with joy and grandeur. There is no cause for concern. Adequate preparations have been made to ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration, and all resources of the Home Ministry are being applied.”
Earlier in the day, Ghani visited the Ramakrishna Ashram in Jessore and the recently renovated Haritala Temple in Keshabpur municipality. Officials present included Khulna Range DIG Md. Rezaul Haque, BNP Central Committee joint secretary for religious affairs Amolendu Das Apu, Jessore Deputy Commissioner Azaharul Islam, Police Superintendent Rawnak Jahan, Keshabpur Upazila Executive Officer Reksona Khatun, and leaders of the Durga Puja celebration front.
