A video circulated on social media claimed that a student of the University of Dhaka (DU) had been gang-raped and abandoned by the roadside. Police have now confirmed the claim to be false, stating that the footage is from a separate incident. According to a statement from the verified Facebook page of Bangladesh Police, the video in question depicts an attack that took place on September 13 in Chattogram’s Chandgaon area over a land dispute. The young woman shown in the footage, along with members of her family, sustained injuries during the assault, and a case has since been filed. Investigators have confirmed that the incident had no link to rape. The victim is also not a student of Dhaka University, but rather a fourth-year student at a college in Chattogram.
