Voter cards given to 36 people injured during July uprising
36 people injured in July uprising and undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology have been given new voter cards.
The cards were distributed to those undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology in Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday (January 28) morning.
Senior secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat and the director general of NID along with officials of the Institute of Ophthalmology were present at the time.
Earlier, information and biometrics of the injured were collected from the hospital. Among those who received the cards, 20 people above the age of 18 were given smart cards. Out of these, 14 are brand new voters.
Election Commission Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said, everyone is enjoying the benefits of the July movement. It was a moral responsibility to come to the hospital and hand over the cards to the injured.
He said that voter cards have already been handed over to the injured at various hospitals including Dhaka Medical College. Voter update work is underway at the field level.
