Dhaka University Vice-President candidate Abidul Islam Khan has raised allegations of rigging and irregularities at several polling centers during the ongoing Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) and Hall Union elections.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday afternoon after inspecting the SM Hall polling center at the Physical Education Center, Abidul said he received multiple complaints about rigging since midday. “I personally visited Amar Ekushey Hall to gather evidence. Polling officials acknowledged that some irregularities occurred,” he stated. Similar issues were also reported at Rokeya Hall.

Abidul added that polling agents faced obstructions from early morning and were hindered in distributing panel sheets outside the voting centers. He further alleged that a candidate for the Reading Circle Secretary position at Rokeya Hall was threatened with losing her student status for distributing code numbers.

Concerned about the allegations, Abidul confirmed that a written complaint has been submitted to the university’s election commission, which is reportedly addressing the matter with patience. “The university administration must take strict action. No tolerance will be shown for such misconduct,” he emphasized.

Regarding the distribution of leaflets by student league candidates near polling centers, Abidul explained that with 41 candidates contesting, it is difficult for voters to remember all names, and this should not be seen as a violation of election conduct.

He concluded by expressing condolences for the recent death of journalists covering the DUCSU elections.
