Want to build country on democratic and economic foundations: Tarique Rahman
BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said his goal is to build the country on a democratic and economic foundation. He made the statement on Thursday afternoon at a public reception event on the 300 Feet Road, beginning his speech at 3:57 pm.
Tarique Rahman said, "Our beloved motherland was achieved through the blood of millions of martyrs. The time has come once again for everyone to unite and build the country."
At the outset of his speech, he stated, "Beloved Bangladesh. This country belongs to everyone, all religions. Our time has come to build the nation together. In this country, there are people from the hills just as there are people from the plains. Together, we want to build a safe Bangladesh."
He said, "More than half of this country's population are women. If we unite, we can fulfil everyone's aspirations."
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir welcomed Tarique Rahman to the stage.
In his address, Tarique Rahman said, "Just as the people of this country achieved independence in 1971, in 2024, people from all walks of life united to protect the nation's independence and sovereignty. Today, the people of Bangladesh want to regain their right to speak. They want to reclaim their right to democracy."
Tarique Rahman further said, "Our time has come to build the nation together. In this country, there are people from the hills and plains, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians. We want to build a safe Bangladesh. A Bangladesh where anyone, be it a woman, man, or child, can safely leave home and safely return."
Referring to the death of Osman Hadi a few days ago, Tarique Rahman said, "Osman Hadi wanted the people of this country to regain their economic rights. To repay the debt of blood of those martyred in '71 and in '24, we must build the desired Bangladesh."
He stated that the younger generation would build the country in the future, emphasising the need to build the nation on a democratic and strong economic foundation. He repeated three times consecutively, "We want peace in the country."
Quoting Martin Luther King's "I have a dream," Tarique Rahman said, "I have a plan." Informing that he has a plan to build the country, Tarique Rahman said he needs the cooperation of every person. Only then will it be possible to implement the plan, he added.
At this time, Tarique Rahman requested everyone to pray for the recovery of his mother, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
Tarique Rahman said, "Together we will work, we will build our Bangladesh." He expressed his gratitude to everyone.
