Washington wants to sell military equipment to Dhaka
The Deputy Commanding General of the US Army Pacific, Lieutenant General Joel P. Vowell, has discussed with Dhaka the possibility of procuring US-made military equipment to enhance the capabilities of the Bangladesh Army.
He held the discussions during his visit to Bangladesh from March 24 to 25.
This information was given in a press release from the US Embassy in Dhaka.
According to it, during the visit, Lieutenant General Vowell met with senior officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces where he reaffirmed his commitment to the long-standing strong relationship between the Bangladesh Army and the US Army and highlighted mutual security interests and ongoing cooperation.
Their discussions recognized the continued role of the Bangladesh Army in protecting national security, especially in dealing with disasters and other critical situations. In addition, the overall security situation, including Bangladesh's main military challenges and areas of potential US assistance, was also discussed.
The two countries are going to participate in military exercises this summer. Dhaka and Washington discussed the upcoming military exercise 'Tiger Lightning'. The meeting also highlighted the possibility of procuring US-made military equipment to enhance mutual interoperability and overall capabilities, as well as praising the professionalism of the Bangladesh Army and the essential role of an efficient and professional military in maintaining regional peace and stability, it added.
