The newly appointed Vice President of the World Bank (WB) for South Asia, Johannes Jatt, has arrived in Dhaka on Saturday (July 12) for a four-day official visit.

During his stay, Jatt is scheduled to meet with key members of Bangladesh's interim government, including the chief and financial advisers, as well as the Bangladesh Bank Governor, senior government officials, and private sector representatives.

Speaking ahead of his meetings, Jatt expressed his admiration for Bangladesh's progress and reaffirmed the World Bank's commitment to supporting the country's inclusive and sustainable development. "The World Bank will continue to support Bangladesh in creating better jobs for the 2 million young people entering the labor market each year," he said.

This is Jatt's first visit to Bangladesh since taking office as Vice President on July 1. He previously served as the World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal from 2013 to 2015.

The World Bank has provided over $45 billion in financial support to Bangladesh since its independence, making it one of the country's key development partners.
