Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, has urged collective responsibility for the ongoing environmental crisis, stating that humanity is guilty of the planet’s destruction.

Speaking at the inauguration of World Environment Day and the Environment and Tree Fair held at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka on Wednesday, Dr. Yunus said, “Those responsible for the devastation of the Earth are all of us here today. We are guilty.”

He cited ancient poets, saying, “If all the water in the oceans were ink, and all the trees in the forests were pens, the crime we commit daily could still not be fully described.”

Dr. Yunus highlighted the various global crises, including wars and technological misuse, but stressed that the gravest threat is the destructive impact humans have on nature. “This is not nature’s fault, but ours. Humans should live in harmony with nature, but instead, we have taken a destructive path. The blame lies with humans, the species that destroys nature.”

He also warned of the escalating climate crisis, describing it as an enormous threat. “The crisis is roaring—either we survive, or it does. Both cannot exist together.”
