We are eternally indebted to every struggling soul: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that his party is eternally indebted to the martyrs and warriors of July 2024 and the last 15 years, to every struggling soul.
He made this comment in a status posted on his verified Facebook account on Tuesday (August 5) afternoon.
In the status, Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the history of the country’s democratic struggle along with personal memories.
He wrote: “I called my daughter first thing in the morning. My heart broke when I heard her voice exactly one year ago at this time. She is not only my daughter, but also the reflection of thousands of expatriate children—who were waiting, worried, and trembling with fear.”
He further wrote: “It was not possible to communicate at that time because the phone was switched off. We could not sleep for many nights. We could not speak properly. The girl just asked, what is going on? I could not explain anything, I just said—InshaAllah, we will win.”
The BNP Secretary General also mentioned the feelings of people living outside the country.
He wrote: “Just as people inside the country suffered, the pain of the expatriates was no less. Night vigils, tears, fear—we were all with us. But the belief that injustice will fall was unwavering.”
Referring to August 5, 2024 as a ‘day of changing history’, Mirza Fakhrul said: “This is not just a date, but the result of many years of democratic struggle, which we have all achieved together.”
Expressing gratitude to the martyrs and fighters, Fakhrul wrote: “We are eternally indebted to the martyrs and fighters of July 2024 and the last 15 years. I am grateful to every person at home and abroad who stood for the truth.”
Calling for protecting independence and achievements, the BNP Secretary General said: “These achievements must be protected with intelligence, restraint and courage.”
