Jamaat-e-Islami does not support any mob justice, said the party's Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.

He said: "We do not want anything extrajudicial. But different incidents affect the opinions and emotions of the public at different times. Still, we always say, you should be patient. Cooperate with the law enforcement agencies and let the justice move at its own pace. That is the welfare. Mob justice is not just here or now, it has been going on for ages. We do not support any mob justice."

He said this in response to a question from journalists after a prayer meeting organized by Jamaat-e-Islami in the village of Ashiya, a child who died after being raped in Sreepur, Magura, on Saturday (March 15) morning.

The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami arrived in Sreepur, Magura, by helicopter in the morning to offer his condolences and sympathy to Ashiya's family.

He first visited the child's grave at 10 am. Then he participated as the chief guest in a short discussion and prayer meeting at a local school ground. At that time, he said: "We said, we want to see the trial and verdict implemented within 90 days. Many said, one week, but according to the law of this country, trial is not possible in one week. That is why I said, 90 days."

"We want to see the speedy punishment of the murderers. Then this family may get mental comfort. The countrymen will also get some comfort. Besides, if the trial is implemented, they will learn from this and be careful in the future."

The discussion meeting, chaired by District unit Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer MB Baker, was addressed as special guests by the party's central Nayeb Ameer Abdullah Mohammad Taher and central member secretary Mubarak Hossain.

After the prayer meeting, the party leaders including Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman went to the child's house. There, they spoke to the family members.
