We don't want to get involved in any politics: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin said, 'Those of us who are in the commission, we don't want to get involved in any politics. We don't want to stand for or against any political party. We want to remain neutral. You will help us.'
He said these things at the annual general meeting and award distribution ceremony of the Reporters Forum for Elections and Democracy (RFED), an organization of journalists who collect news from the Election Commission, on Sunday (February 9) afternoon. The program was organized at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Nasir Uddin said, 'There will be differences of opinion everywhere. Disagreement does not mean opposition. There will be differences of opinion on the same issue. Many people cannot accept this. But I have a habit of accepting it. If I am criticized, I will assume that there is a deficiency or problem, then I will correct myself.'
The CEC believes that it is necessary to stop the influence of politicians to restore trust in the Election Commission. He said, ‘If the ‘influence on the Election Commission’ of politicians cannot be stopped, I think the same old thing will be repeated. This seems to me to be the biggest reason in the past. We have to come out of this.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Begum Tahmida Ahmed, Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed were present at the event.
