We haven’t come to change Gopalganj’s name: Nahid Islam
Amid rising tensions due to alleged attacks and vandalism by banned Chhatra League and Awami League activists, the National Citizen Party (NCP) carried out its scheduled July March in Gopalganj.
Speaking at a rally on Wednesday (July 16) at Municipal Park in Gopalganj town, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam said, “Dear people of Gopalganj, we have not come to change the name of Gopalganj.”
He said, “We came to make a promise that in the future Bangladesh — in this new Bangladesh — the rights of the people of Gopalganj will be upheld.”
“Today, we are in Gopalganj with the July March programme to build the nation. We haven’t come with a call for conflict, but with a call for peace and progress,” he added.
The NCP Convenor further said, “Dear people of Gopalganj, today Mujib supporters tried to block our path. During the mass uprising, we declared that if we were stopped, we would resist — and we emerged victorious. Once again, we’ve faced obstruction, and this time, we will respond with twice the strength, InshaAllah.”
