Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said this year’s budget was prepared with limited resources and numerous demands.

He said, “Instead of using fancy words, we focused on making the upcoming budget people-friendly and business-friendly. These two aspects were given top priority in the proposed budget.”

He made these remarks during his opening speech at the post-budget press conference organized by the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday (June 3).

Salehuddin Ahmed said, “We did not take power, we took responsibility. As there is no parliament, we presented the budget before the nation, and for this, we are accountable to the people.”

He further said, “We presented the budget at a time when the country’s economy is in a critical condition, like being in the ICU. Considering this reality, we have given a budget and will now try to implement it. We are also continuing economic reforms. We need everyone’s support in this effort.”

“The upcoming budget is both people-friendly and business-friendly. Although not entirely focused on business, we tried to ensure public participation. We are committed to the people and want to focus on public safety and social development. That’s why we allocated more to the social sectors,” he added.

Finance Adviser urged, “We want the media to work with sympathy. We want to take the country forward. We aim to leave a footprint so that future leaders can follow it.”

Earlier, on Monday, the finance adviser presented a national budget of Tk7,90,000 crore for the fiscal year 2025–26.
