Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar has said that the future of the country depends on the upcoming national election. A fair and acceptable election is the aspiration of the people of Bangladesh. “We have been disgraced many times in the past; this time, we must erase that stain. We want to deliver a fair and acceptable election,” he said.

He made the remarks on Monday, November 10, at a daylong workshop titled “Challenges and Solutions in Fulfilling the Duties of Polling Officers in the Electoral Process” held at an auditorium of BARD in Cumilla.

EC Anwarul further said that holding a good election is not possible single-handedly. It requires collective efforts from all. Therefore, he urged all members of the administration, including the police, to act responsibly, free from fear and intimidation. “There is no reason to fear organising a fair and free election. Duties must be carried out impartially, without any influence or pressure,” he added.

Special guests at the workshop included Joint Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Md Abdul Halim Khan, Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Md Amirul Kaiser, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan, and Deputy Secretary and Project Director of the Election Commission Secretariat Muhammad Mostafa Hasan. The event was presided over by Cumilla Regional Election Officer Mohammad Azizul Islam.
