BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that despite years of political persecution, the party’s leaders and activists never surrendered or deviated from their path.

He made the remark during the inauguration of a victory rally held in Nayapaltan on Wednesday (August 6), marking the anniversary of the July uprising.

“We were imprisoned, we were tortured, but we never bowed our heads,” said Fakhrul. “From the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia to Tarique Rahman, we have continued our struggle for democracy.”

Fakhrul paid tribute to those killed in the July movement and wished a swift recovery to those injured. He also acknowledged the role of the armed forces in the events of July 24, expressing “sincere thanks and gratitude” for their cooperation.

“I thank the people, political parties, students, and above all, the patriotic army. With their support, we achieved this victory,” he said.

The BNP leader also credited Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for guiding the party during the crisis. “On behalf of the entire party, I thank Tarique Rahman. He showed us the path to freedom and led us forward.”
