Webometrics Ranking: Country's best DU, RU surpasses BUET
Madrid-based education and research institute Webometrics has released the latest edition of the 2024 list of the world's best universities. Some 170 public and private universities of Bangladesh have been placed in this list. Among them, Dhaka University (DU) is in the first position and Rajshahi University (RU) has come to the second position crossing Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET).
In the world ranking, DU is at 1144th and RU is at 1283rd.
This information was revealed in the report of the second edition of 2024 (July) published on Sunday (September 22).
According to Webometrics ranking, nine of the top 10 universities in the world are in America. According to the ranking, the best university in the world is Harvard University. The second position is Stanford University in the United States, the third position is Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the fourth position is Oxford University in the United Kingdom, the fifth position is the University of California Berkeley, the sixth position is the University of Michigan, the seventh position is Cornell University, the eighth position is the University of Washington, the ninth position is Columbia University New York and the tenth position is University of Pennsylvania.
Among Bangladeshi universities in the list, Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) has moved from the second position to the third position. Their international position is 1416th. Shahjalal University of Science and Technology is ranked sixth, from previous fourth position. Their world ranking is 1896th.
The top 10 universities in the country also include North South University (1,780th), Daffodil International University (1,793rd), Jahangirnagar University (1,945th), BRAC University (1,978th), Bangladesh Agricultural University (2,323rd) and University of Chittagong (2329th).
It is reported that Webometrics considers each university's teaching methods, impact of scientific research, innovation and expansion of new technologies, economic relevance, communal inclusion i.e. social, cultural and environmental role in ranking the university.
