For whom is the corridor, asks Mirza Abbas
BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has questioned the purpose of the proposed corridor and the interim government's intentions.
He said, “For whom is the corridor? Is it to send supplies to the Arakan Army? We will always protect the independence and sovereignty of our country. The corridor is not just about profit or loss. Now, they even want to give away the New Mooring Terminal. The people of this country are not fools.”
He made these remarks on Wednesday afternoon (May 28) while speaking at a youth rally organized by BNP’s three affiliated bodies—Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal—in front of the party’s central office in capital's Nayapaltan.
Mirza Abbas also questioned, “Who was Starlink brought in for? For the Arakan Army? We’ve been doing fine without it.”
He said, “BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has brought the youth together. I’m very pleased to see the young people’s message at this rally. It takes me back to my own youth, when we protested against Ershad’s dictatorship. You’ve reminded me of those days.”
Criticizing the government, Mirza Abbas said, “Over the past nine months, this government has only ignored us. BNP has received nothing but neglect.”
He also said, “Most members of this government are not even genuine citizens of the country. Now they’re making all kinds of plans. Let me make it clear—you don’t need to do any of this. We don’t care whether the corridor brings gains or losses. I’ve said it before, the government must clearly explain what’s going on in Saint Martin’s and Sajek.”
In a strongly critical tone, Mirza Abbas added, “This government has done nothing in the past nine months. Whenever we talk about elections, they respond with talk of reforms and justice. If you couldn’t carry out reforms in nine months, you won’t be able to do it in nine years—or even ninety. In these nine months, decay has spread throughout the entire government.”
