Wholesale level power price increases
The Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has increased the price of electricity at the wholesale level through an executive order of the government.
The increased price will be effective from the electricity bill of February, according to a gazette notification issued by the ministry on Thursday (February 29) night.
According to the notification, the wholesale electricity price for 230KV and 132KV lines has been fixed at Tk 8.44 and Tk 8.47 respectively.
It also said that the price of electricity of 33KV line for Power Development Board (PDB) has been fixed at Tk 7.62 while TK 6.73 has been fixed for Rural Electrification Board (REB), Tk 8.56 for Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), Tk 8.58 for Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO), Tk 7.46 for West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited and Tk 7.04 for Northern Electricity Supply Company Limited (NESCO). Apart from this, with the increase in the wholesale electricity price, the price at the consumer level will increase.
Earlier in the afternoon, Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told reporters that the increased price of electricity will be effective from February which means that the consumers will have to pay additional bills from March.
Mentionable, the government last increased the price of electricity on February 28, 2023.
