Wife allegedly raped after husband tied up at Rajshahi railway station
A man was brutally beaten, tied up, and his wife was raped at the Sardaha railway station in Charghat upazila, Rajshahi. The incident took place around 1:00 am on Tuesday, April 28.
The victim's husband filed a case at the Charghat Model Police Station on Wednesday afternoon, April 29.
The couple, from Natore's Sadar upazila, sell popcorn on trains. On the night of the incident, they got off the 'Dhaka Mail' train at Sardaha station after finishing their sales. They were sitting near a closed tea shop adjacent to the station when the attacker, Ashraful Islam, 35, of Halidagachi Jagirpara village in Charghat upazila, attacked them with a stick and a sharp weapon .
The attacker first beat the husband mercilessly and tied him up near an abandoned shop. He snatched the money from the couple's popcorn sales. He then took the wife to a nearby bush and raped her .
The victim told police that he shouted for help, but no one came to their aid. About 45 minutes later, locals heard his cries and rescued him. He then went into the bushes and found his wife .
The station master said only three employees were on duty at the time, and they were unaware of the incident .
Charghat Police Station OC Abdul Malek said the accused is absconding, and efforts are on to arrest him .
