Will accept poll results if vote is free and fair: Jamaat Ameer
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday said his party would accept the election results if the vote is held in a free and fair manner, urging others to respect the verdict as well. “That is the beauty of democracy,” he said.
He made the remarks after casting his vote at Monipur High School polling centre in the capital around 8:30am on Thursday (February 12).
Dr. Rahman said the people of the country had been deprived of their voting rights for over one and a half decades, adding that he himself had been unable to vote. “We did not get the opportunity to vote in 2014, 2018 and 2024. After missing three elections, Allah has given us the chance to vote today,” he said.
Referring to young voters, he said many in the younger generation had never cast a vote in their lives and had long awaited this day. He expressed hope that the election would be peaceful, free, fair and free from violence and occupation, and that the outcome would be acceptable to all.
Calling on voters to participate, he urged them to come out of their homes, exercise their franchise and become proud partners in building the state.
Regarding the voting atmosphere, he said he had cast his ballot at his own centre and would later observe the situation at other polling stations.
