Will seek repatriation of fugitive AL leaders: Press Secretary
The government will take initiatives to bring back fugitive Awami League leaders and ministers of the previous government who are accused of corruption, murder cases and human rights violations in various countries, said Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor.
He said, "We are serious about all those accused, those against whom corruption charges and murder cases are pending, and we will seek repatriation of each one of them. They will have to face the law of Bangladesh. It is our moral responsibility and the moral responsibility of the next government to bring them under the law."
He said these things at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Monday (April 21) afternoon.
Calling the fugitive leaders corrupt, the press secretary said, "They are stealing the money of the people of Bangladesh and taking it abroad for their own pleasure. It is definitely our moral responsibility to bring them back. We will do this work."
Noting that most of the Awami League leaders who fled abroad have blood on their hands, he said, they are accused of human rights violations. They are involved in major corruption.
When asked about the objections of Islamist parties to the proposal of the Women's Reform Commission, the Press Secretary said, the report will go to the consensus commission. They will talk to the political parties about it. Because many issues are politically negotiated. The political parties will decide how much of the report we will take or not.
In response to the question of whether there will be discussions on increasing the facilities of Bangladeshi workers in Qatar or not, the Press Secretary said, we have had this plan for a long time. We are talking to the United Arab Emirates on the same issue, said Lutfe Siddiqui, the special envoy of the chief advisor. So that the country's market is open to us. We are looking into hiring more workers from Bangladesh. Similarly, we are working on other countries where our brothers and sisters can get jobs. The government's priority is to ensure that the labor markets are better paid and that more people can go.
Also present at the press conference were - Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Senior Assistant Press Secretary Faiz Ahmed, Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita Tithi.
