Woman accused of killing cat in Bogura found mentally unstable
Police have said that the woman accused of killing a cat by slitting its throat in Bogura has been found to be mentally unstable. She was arrested from her home on Friday November 7 morning and sent to court in the afternoon.
The arrested woman has been identified as Bulbuli Begum, 26, a resident of Dattabaria Cluster Village in Adamdighi upazila.
Officer-in-Charge OC of Adamdighi Police Station SM Mostafizur Rahman said that Bulbuli was arrested not for killing the cat but in connection with another incident. Locals complained that on Friday morning Bulbuli chased people in the neighbourhood with a vegetable cutting knife. Police arrived and detained her, showing arrest under Section 151 of the Penal Code.
The OC said, “According to locals, Bulbuli is mentally unstable. We are looking into the cat killing incident, and the investigation is ongoing.”
Local sources said that recently a cat ate fish from Bulbuli’s house. Angered by this, she slit the cat’s throat with a knife. Following the incident, on Wednesday November 5, Emran Hossain, a member of the Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association, filed a written complaint with the police station.
