Woman allegedly gang-raped in Rajbari after visiting boyfriend

A 22-year-old woman has been allegedly gang raped after traveling to Pangsha upazila in Rajbari district to meet her boyfriend.

The incident reportedly took place late Friday night (February 27) at a government shelter center in a union of Pangsha.

The victim filed a case with Pangsha Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming two suspects — Akash Mondal, 29, and Jamal Mondal, 22.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Pangsha Circle) Debabrata Sarkar confirmed the matter on Sunday afternoon (March 1), saying no arrests had been made yet but efforts were underway to detain those involved.

According to police and local sources, the woman, a resident of Nandail upazila in Mymensingh, became acquainted with a young man from Sarisha union in Pangsha through TikTok about seven months ago. Their online interaction later developed into a romantic relationship, and the man allegedly proposed marriage.

However, the relationship reportedly deteriorated on February 14 due to misunderstandings. The complaint states that associates of the boyfriend later summoned the woman to Pangsha, allegedly to “teach her a lesson.”

The First Information Report (FIR) alleges that around 11:30pm on Friday, the two accused raped her and forcibly took Tk 10,000 in cash and a pair of gold earrings. The following day, with assistance from locals, the survivor received primary medical treatment and lodged a complaint with police.

Law enforcement officials said an investigation is ongoing and necessary legal steps are being taken.
