A young woman has filed a rape case alleging that she was abducted and assaulted after being forcibly separated from her husband while returning home by auto-rickshaw in Homna upazila of Cumilla district.

The incident took place on Wednesday night in the Homna Agriculture College area, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tomas Barua of Homna Police Station confirmed.

According to the case statement, the victim and her husband, who live in a rented house in Homna municipal area, were travelling to her father’s home in Titas when a group of men intercepted their auto-rickshaw.

The accused—identified as Ashikur Rahman, 24, of Oparchar village, along with several associates—allegedly forced the vehicle onto a secluded brick road after stopping it.

Police said some members of the group took the husband and the driver away, while Ashikur Rahman and two others restrained the woman. The complaint alleges that she was then raped.

After the incident, the assailants released the couple, who first sought medical attention before filing a case with police.

OC Tomas Barua said the victim and her husband reported the incident at the police station around 4:00am. Police subsequently conducted a raid at the scene, but the accused remain at large.

The victim has been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for medical examination, and police said efforts are ongoing to arrest those involved.
