Woman arrested at Sylhet airport before UK flight over travel ban

Police have arrested a woman at Sylhet's Osmani International Airport after offloading her from a UK-bound flight due to a court-imposed travel ban in a fraud case.

Maksuda Chowdhury, 56, was arrested on Sunday morning, July 12, while she was about to board a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-201) to the United Kingdom.

She is the wife of Shah Md Salek Hossain from Rautgaon village in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Manjurul Alam said Maksuda Chowdhury was an accused in a fraud case filed at Sylhet Kotwali Model Police Station. The court had imposed a ban on her foreign travel.

She had already boarded the flight and taken her seat before being offloaded and arrested around 10:30 am. She was later handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station.
