Woman attempts suicide on lover's wedding in Cox's Bazar

A young woman tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in front of her lover's house after seeing his wedding arrangements in Kutubdia, Cox's Bazar. Jinnat Ara, 22, is currently undergoing treatment at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors said her condition is critical.

According to local sources, Jinnat Ara had been in a romantic relationship with Rahim Ullah of Naya Ghona village for nearly four years. Upon learning of his wedding on Friday morning, May 15, she went to his house. After seeing the marriage preparations, she consumed poison outside the residence.

Following instructions from a local union parishad member, members of the village police rescued her and took her to Kutubdia Upazila Health Complex. When her condition worsened, she was transferred to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

The victim's family alleged that after she fell critically ill, the groom's family members failed to help her, and instead took her mobile phone and cash.

Kutubdia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbubul Haque said legal action would be taken upon receiving a written complaint.
