Woman brutally tortured by husband, in-laws in Subarnachar

Sharmin Akhtar (30), a mother of 3 children, has been accused of torture by tying her hands and feet in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali. A video of the torture has recently gone viral on social media.

Members of Charjabbar police station visited the scene on Wednesday.

This incident took place on the night of August 13 at the house of Abdul Hadi of Charamjid village of East Charbata Union of Subarnachar Upazila.

According to Sharmin Akhter, she got married to Nurnabi from the same village 12 years ago. As her husband is physically disabled, she runs the household through begging.

As one of her daughters has a heart problem, she needs Tk 50,000. If she gets late in returning home after begging, her husband would accuse her of adultery and scolded her.

At one stage of the conflict, Sharmin came to Dhaka in search of work. Later a neighbour took her home recently. At one stage of the argument, on the day of the incident, everyone in the house, including her father-in-law, physically tortured him by tying their hands and feet.

The accused Nurnabi was called several times to inquire about the complaint, but the phone was found switched off.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Charjabbar Police Station Kaushar Alam Bhuiyan said, I have received a video footage of the housewife’s hands and feet being tied. Seeing that, the force has been sent to the spot. Legal action will be taken if written complaint is received.
