Woman dies after falling from rickshaw during bag snatching attempt
A woman has lost her life after falling from a rickshaw when some miscreants tried to snatch her bah from a private car.
The incident occurred around 9:30 am on Thursday near Uttara South Metro Station in Dhaka.
The deceased is Mukta Akter, 21, was the daughter of Abdul Jalil. She and her husband, Limon Hossain, resided in the Southkhan Faidabad area on rented accommodation.
According to her husband, Mukta was travelling to a market in Mirpur Pallabi to purchase items for the upcoming Eid festival, riding in a battery-operated rickshaw. Another passenger in the rickshaw reported that their vehicle was passing beneath the Uttara South Metro Station when a man in a private car reached out and yanked her handbag. The force caused Mukta to fall from the rickshaw onto the road, sustaining severe injuries.
Immediate assistance came from passersby and the other rickshaw passenger, who took Mukta to Uttara Modern Hospital. Limon arrived to find his wife in critical condition. Due to delays in receiving proper treatment, she was subsequently transferred to Ahsanullah Medical College in Tongi, and later to Pangu Hospital. Eventually, she was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Md. Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police outpost, said that the deceased had sustained injuries to her head and forehead. Her body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem examination. The incident is currently under investigation by Turag Police Station.
