Woman drinks poison in courtroom allegedly over husband’s bail
A woman who was seeking justice in Feni consumed poison in anger over her husband's bail. The incident took place at the Fulgazi Administrative Court of the District and Sessions Judge's Court on Sunday afternoon (May 10). This created a huge sensation in the court premises.
The victim, Tahmina Akhter Mohana, was present at the hearing of an ongoing case related to domestic violence and marital strife in the court. After the hearing, the court granted bail to her husband Akbar Hossain, and she suddenly consumed poison in the courtroom.
Local sources said that Mohana married Akbar Hossain, a father of four children from Fulgazi Upazila, in 2025 after a love affair. However, after the marriage, she came to know that her husband already had a wife and children. Since then, she has been approaching the court on charges of marital strife and torture.
Mohana alleged that she did not get justice despite filing a case against her husband and his family for their torture. She consumed poison in the courtroom in anger after her husband was granted bail in the hearing on Sunday.
Immediately after the incident, the lawyers, police and court officials present quickly rescued her and sent her to Feni General Hospital.
The plaintiff's lawyer in the case, Zahir Uddin Mamun, said that it is believed that she took such a decision out of frustration over family torture and lack of justice.
Dr. Rokon Uddaula, Resident Medical Officer of Feni General Hospital, said that Mohana was brought to the hospital with symptoms of poisoning. As primary treatment, her stomach was cleaned and she is currently being kept under close observation.
Feni Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Saiful Islam said that the incident will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
