Woman found dead in Dhaka hotel bathroom
Police have recovered the body of a young woman from the bathroom of a residential hotel in the capital’s Green Road area.
The deceased, identified as Tania Nabi, 29, was found on Thursday around 12:30pm at Rupsha International Hotel under Kalabagan Police Station, officials said.
Police said the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. No visible injury marks were found on the body during the initial investigation, but several types of medicines, including sleeping pills, were recovered from the room.
Tania Nabi was from Gabra Boali Char village under Ishwarganj upazila in Mymensingh. Her father is Nur Nabi and mother Shamima Akhter.
Kalabagan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Fazle Ahsan said the woman had checked into the hotel on April 19, telling staff she had come to Dhaka from her village to take an IELTS examination.
Police said she rarely left her room and kept the door and windows closed most of the time. She had also been irregular in paying rent.
On Thursday afternoon, hotel staff broke open the room door after she did not respond to repeated knocks for rent collection, and later found her body inside the bathroom, police said.
The OC added that the cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report, and further investigation is underway.
