A housewife, Tania Islam (22), was allegedly tied up, tortured and killed with a sharp weapon by her husband, Md Shah Paran, in Sirajganj's Tarash upazila. The accused has been on the run since the incident.

The incident occurred late on Monday (July 27) night at Tania's father's home in the Bishamdanga village of Deshigram Union in the upazila. Police recovered the bloodstained body on Tuesday morning and sent it to Sirajganj Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police said Tania's hands and feet were tied with rope when the body was recovered. There were marks of sharp weapon blows on her head and various parts of her body. Bloodstains were also found scattered across the bathroom. Police suspect she was tortured with her hands and feet tied before being killed.

The victim's father, Sorhab Ali, filed a murder case against his son-in-law Shah Paran at Tarash Police Station.

According to the case and local sources, Tania married Shah Paran, a resident of Araihazar upazila in Narayanganj, about four years ago following a romantic relationship. As the groom's family did not accept the marriage, the couple had been living at Tania's father's house.

Relatives said the couple had dinner together and went to sleep on Monday night. At some point during the night, Shah Paran reportedly took Tania to the bathroom inside the room, tied her hands and feet with rope and beat her. He then allegedly killed her by striking her head and body with a sharp weapon before fleeing.

Tarash Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Habibur Rahman said a murder case has been filed, and police are conducting operations to arrest the accused.
