Woman held over allegedly forged job recommendation letter

Police have arrested a woman for allegedly forging the signatures of Local Government State Minister Mir Shah-e-Alam and two officials of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) to prepare recommendation letters in support of a job application.

The woman, identified as Taslima Parvin, 39, was detained at the LGED office in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Tuesday (September 15). Police later took her into custody.

Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam said police went to the LGED office after officials and employees detained the woman there. She was subsequently taken into police custody.

According to police, Taslima Parvin went to the chief engineer of the LGED with a job application. She told him that the application carried recommendations from several people, including State Minister Mir Shah-e-Alam.

The chief engineer became suspicious after examining the application. He took a photograph of it and sent it to the state minister. When asked whether the signature on the recommendation was his, the minister said neither the recommendation nor the signature belonged to him.

The chief engineer then contacted the other people whose recommendations were mentioned in the application. Police said they also denied having made the recommendations.

The woman was subsequently questioned, and according to the case statement, she initially admitted to forging the signatures.

LGED Assistant Engineer Mofazzal Hossain filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station over the incident. Taslima Parvin was shown arrested in the case.

Police said arrangements were being made to produce her before a court.
