Woman killed as constraction wall collapses in Hatirjheel

A woman was killed after a wall of an under-construction building collapsed on her in the Hatirjheel area of the capital on Friday night (March 13).

The deceased was identified as Rasheda Begum, 38, was the wife of Saiful Islam from Durgapur village in Gaibandha Sadar.

She had been living in a rented house in the Madhubagh area and worked as a domestic help in several households.

She was declared dead after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 10:00pm, according to doctors at the emergency department.

According to Sakhaowat Hossain, who took her to the hospital, the incident took place around 8:30pm when Rasheda was passing in front of a building known locally as “Professor Bari” in lane No. 3 of Madhubagh. A wall from the second floor of an under-construction building suddenly collapsed and fell on her, leaving her critically injured.

She was first rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital. Later, she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue and the matter has been informed to the concerned police station.
