Woman kills husband with brick, calls 999

A woman killed her husband by striking him on the head with a brick while he was asleep after feeding him sleeping pills. The murder was reportedly driven by family disputes and alleged extramarital affairs. The woman, Rehena Akhter, later called the national emergency service 999 and surrendered to police.

The incident took place around 12:30pm on Thursday, September 3, in the Nandipara Bara Mosque area under Sabujbagh Police Station in the capital.

Police Inspector Anwar Sattar, media and public relations officer of 999, said Rehena Akhter called 999 herself after killing her husband. She informed them that she had fed her husband sleeping pills the previous night, which left him in a deep sleep. She then struck him on the head with a brick, killing him. 999 immediately informed Sabujbagh Police Station, and a police team went to the scene, detained the woman and recovered the body of the deceased.

The victim has been identified as Mahfuzur Rahman (40).

Inspector Anwar Sattar said preliminary information suggests Rehena was enraged over family disputes and her husband's alleged extramarital affairs with other women, which led to the killing. Legal action is underway.
