Woman missing after falling into manhole in Gazipur
A woman went missing after reportedly falling into an open manhole on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in the Tongi area of Gazipur on Sunday night (July 27).
The incident took place around 9:15pm near Hossain Market, sparking panic among locals. The identity of the woman has not yet been confirmed.
According to witnesses, the woman fell into an uncovered manhole belonging to Gazipur City Corporation during heavy rain. Locals attempted an immediate rescue but were unsuccessful. The Tongi Fire Service was alerted and a rescue team was dispatched to the scene.
Senior Station Officer Md Shahin Alam of Tongi Fire Service said their team has been searching for the woman for several hours. The manhole, estimated to be about 10 feet deep, is filled with rainwater, making the rescue effort more difficult.
Iskandar Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi West Police Station, confirmed that police have visited the location and are assisting with the ongoing operation.
