Woman posing as DGFI officer held in Cox’s Bazar
Police in Cox’s Bazar’s Pekua upazila have detained a woman on allegations of impersonating a member of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and using the false identity to influence individuals and institutions.amar
The accused, identified as Hasina Akter, 42, was detained from the Mognama Union Parishad office late Tuesday night (June 23) after failing to provide any valid proof of her claimed affiliation with the intelligence agency.
According to police and local officials, Hasina had allegedly been presenting herself as a DGFI officer for an extended period and using the identity to establish influence in administrative and social circles. Suspicion grew after she reportedly attempted to intervene in several matters while claiming official authority.
Mognama Union Parishad Chairman Yunus Chowdhury said the woman had repeatedly contacted local representatives and others while identifying herself as an intelligence official. Her activities raised concerns, prompting local authorities to inform police.
Responding officers questioned her at the Union Parishad office, where she was unable to produce any documents or evidence supporting her claim. She was subsequently taken into custody for further interrogation.
Md. Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pekua Police Station, said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect used the fake identity to communicate with government and private institutions, as well as influential individuals. Police have also received allegations that she may have obtained money from people through fraudulent means.
A case has been filed against her on charges of fraud and impersonation. She was produced before a court on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators are now examining the extent of her activities and whether any accomplices were involved in the alleged scheme.
