Woman publicly beaten for protesting molestation in Barishal
A woman has been publicly beaten on the road for protesting molestation. Later, the video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, a man is seen throwing a woman on the road and punching her. Passersby and locals are trying to stop him.
The incident took place at Bakerganj Sadar in Barishal on Friday (March 7) afternoon.
However, the police said that no one has filed a complaint with the police station over this incident. The matter will be investigated if a complaint is received.
Witnesses said a woman went to buy clothes at Khandaker Bastralay, a clothing store on Sadar Road. At that time, the woman alleged that the shop owner, Zakir Hossain, molested her. She alleged that the shop owner touched her body in the name of showing her clothes. When she protested, the shop owner started beating her. He took her to the road outside the shop, kicking and punching her.
Several witnesses said that after seeing the commotion inside the shop, they tried to stop both parties. However, the attack happened before that.
Meanwhile, the accused Zakir Hossain introduced himself as the vice-president of the ward BNP and told reporters that when he was attacked inside the shop, he retaliated. If he is at fault for this, he has nothing to do.
In this regard, the general secretary of the municipal BNP, Shahbuddin Shahin Talukder, told the media, "Zakir is the vice-president of ward number 2 of the municipal BNP. However, I do not know about the incident, I only saw a video of it on Facebook."
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bakerganj Police Station Shafiqul Islam said, "Zakir attacked the woman's son. At that time, the woman went to protect her son. She was not attacked."
