Miscreants allegedly opened fire at a man while searching for his son in the Karimnagar area of Khulna city, leaving his wife injured after the bullet missed its intended target on Monday. The incident occurred around 10:30am under Sonadanga Police Station.

The bullet-hit victim, identified as 40-year-old Shimul Begum, is the wife of local mobile phone trader Md. Mukul. She sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of her lower back and was subsequently rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment.

According to police and local residents, five individuals on two motorcycles arrived at the residence in Karimnagar, where Mukul lives as a tenant on the third floor. Upon entering, the visitors began searching for Mukul's college-going son.
When Mukul inquired about the reason for their search and informed them that his son was not at home, the men remained at the scene. An altercation and scuffle eventually broke out between Mukul and the group.

Mukul stated that during the altercations, one of the miscreants fired a shot aimed at him. However, the bullet missed him and struck his wife, who was standing nearby. Relatives and locals rescued her and took her to the hospital immediately after the shooting.

The incident caused tension in the area. The identity of the attackers and the motive behind their search for Mukul's son remain unclear.
Md. Humayun Kabir, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sonadanga Zone) of Khulna Metropolitan Police, stated that Mukul and his family are known as good people in the locality. Police are collecting and verifying information to ascertain the reason behind the attack, and a drive is underway to arrest those involved in the incident.
