Woman's body recovered from Mirpur flat
Police have recovered the body of a 24-year-old woman from a flat in the capital's Mirpur Kazipara area after breaking open the door with the assistance of the Fire Service.
The deceased was identified as Jenny Khan.
According to police, she had rented the seventh-floor apartment beside Kazipara Metro Station in April with a man named Munna, introducing the latter as her husband.
Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajjad Hossain said the house owner alerted police after a foul smell was coming from the flat on Tuesday.
"Police and Fire Service personnel broke open the door and recovered the body from a bedroom," he said.
Police suspect the woman had been dead for several days before the body was discovered.
Investigators said Munna reportedly left the apartment on Sunday and did not return afterwards. His current whereabouts remain unknown.
The body was sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are trying to gather detailed information about the couple's identities and backgrounds.
"We are collecting further information about them. Munna is currently absconding. The matter will become clearer once we locate and question him," the OC added.
Law enforcers are examining all possible angles, including the circumstances surrounding the woman's death, while efforts are underway to trace the missing man.
No case has been filed yet, police said, adding that further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and the post-mortem report.
