Woman’s body recovered from river with pitcher around neck, eyes and mouth bound
Sahera Khatun, 50, a woman’s body has been recovered by police from the Bongshi river in Dhamrai of Dhaka with a clay pitcher tied around her neck and her eyes and mouth bound with cloth.
Local people informed the police after seeing the body floating in the river beside Hajipur cluster village of Dhamrai Sadar union on Friday (August 21) afternoon. Police later recovered the body around 9pm.
The deceased Sahera Khatun was a resident of Hajipur Ashrayan Project. She was the daughter of late Ismail Hossain of Bangalpara village under Bhariaria union. She used to live alone in a room of the cluster village. She had no children and did not have many close relatives either, police said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhamrai Police Station Md Nazmul Huda Khan said a clay pitcher was tied around the neck of the body. Besides, her eyes and mouth were bound with cloth. However, no mark of injury was found on the body in the preliminary inquest.
Police said Sahera was physically ill. She had dues from several people and was going around them to realise that money.
On Saturday morning the inquest report was prepared and the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy.
The OC said a CID team has inspected the spot in connection with the investigation of the incident. Police are also investigating the matter. The actual cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report.
