Police have recovered the partially decomposed, dismembered body of an unidentified woman from beneath a culvert in the capital's Sabujbagh area and launched a search for the remaining body parts.

The remains were found at around 9:00am on Thursday (August 6) during an operation by Sabujbagh police.

Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sabujbagh Police Station, said, "The recovered portion included the victim's head and both hands, while the rest of the body remains missing."

Preliminary findings suggest the woman was murdered and dismembered two to three days ago. Investigators believe the killing occurred several days earlier, as the recovered remains were already in an advanced state of decomposition.

However, the victim has yet to be identified.

A forensic crime scene team has been deployed to collect evidence, including fingerprints, and examine other forensic clues to establish her identity.

Police said an investigation is underway to trace the remaining body parts, identify the victim and determine the circumstances surrounding the killing. Legal proceedings are in progress.
