Woman's skeletal remains found in septic tank in Faridpur

The skeletal remains of a woman, wrapped in a sack, have been found under the slab of a toilet's septic tank in Madhukhali, Faridpur.

The remains were recovered around 2pm on Sunday (July 26) from a house in Shripur Karmakarpara area of Ward No. 6 in the municipality by Madhukhali Police Station.

According to police and local sources, the matter came to light around 8am on Sunday. The owner of the house, Mosammat Rawshana Begum (55), wife of Md Ali Akbar Mondol (80) — son of late Madhu Mondol — said she had gone to the bathroom around 5am and felt something unusual when she stood on the slab. She also noticed the slab was uneven. She informed her husband, but he initially did not take it seriously. Later, Ali Akbar Mondol himself went to the bathroom and suspected there was something wrapped in a sack under the slab. He then informed family members and relatives. Around 1pm, they called the national emergency service 999, and Madhukhali Police Station personnel arrived at the scene.

Madhukhali Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Mafizur Rahman recovered the sack from the spot.

He said upon opening the sack, a skeleton was found inside. The skull was of medium size, with long black hair, and several bones were separated.

Madhukhali Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Maruf Hasan confirmed the matter and said they believe it is a woman's skeleton based on the long hair found with it. Initial indications suggest the skeleton may have been brought from elsewhere and dumped into the septic tank.

He said the skeleton's identity can be confirmed through DNA testing. For this purpose, the remains were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Sunday evening. Along with identifying the remains, police are investigating the overall matter and legal action will be taken.
